The 250th anniversary of the Bard of Scotland, Robert Burns (Rabbie Burns) is being celebrated throughout Scotland during 2009 and many events are planned. Burns was born January 25th, 1759 and he died July 21st, 1796. As always, Burns' Night is celebrated on his birthday, which in 2009 fell on a Sunday so events took place on Saturday January 24th, 2009.
The official Scottish incoming tourist association, Visit Scotland, has a massive ‘I am a Scot’ campaign targeting visitors from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA who have ancestral links with Scotland, www.cometoscotland.com.

WOW.travel will be interested to see if Scotland's current Most Famous Living Scotsman, Sir Sean Connery, returns to his homeland during the 2009 celebrations. He lives on the lovely island of Bermuda (surely not to avoid paying taxes to his fellow Scot, Gordon Brown, who has somehow found himself London-based Prime Minister of Great Britain/UK).
