The Venice Carnival is February 10-20. During this time carnival entertainment fills every square, road and alley and there are numerous masked parties and balls.

The highlight, Il Ballo del Doge - which Vanity Fair says is one of the most exclusive parties in the world - is on February 17th, at the Pisani Moretta Palace . This was built in the second half of the 15th century on the Grand Canal, half way between the Bridge of Rialto and the Ca' Foscari's vault.
What we see today is primarily mid-18th century, with splendid Gothic mullioned windows on exteriors of both floors. Inside, the wonderfully elaborate 18th century Baroque decoration is by Giuseppe Angeli, Gaspare Diziani, Jacopo Guarana and Giambattista Tiepolo. Great hotels to stay during the Carnival include the Cipriani, on Giudecca, seven minutes' by private boat from Piazza San Marco.
Built by Giuseppe Cipriani in 1958, it has been awe-inspiringly expanded and enhanced by its present owners, Orient-Express, and to say GM Dr Natale Rusconi is an industry legend is an understatement.

It is he who has supervised the incorporatation of the adjacent
Palazzo Vendramin (WOW.travel loves suite 76, which overlooks the Canale delle Giudecca to the Doges Palace and san Marco).
He has also brought in the fun-casual Cip's restaurant, for the world's best bellinis - though admittedly they are at their peak during peach season, June through September - and do not miss the terrace's lunchtime mozarella menu.
