The Hotel Principe di Savoia overlooks Piazza della Repubblica in the centre of Milan, is a landmark imposing and uniform in style. Opened on 6 April 1927 in what was then called Piazza Fiume, it underwent enlargements in 1956 and 1957: two wings adjoining the main building were added. But the latest renovation increased the total space by 2000 cubic meters through the addition of two floors to the shortest of the existing four buildings. The façade of the whole hotel was redone in a single style, the graceful, ornate neo-classic of the original building. The ground floor has an exterior of wrought iron and glass, extended in verandas along the entire front in the style of Milan’s famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The expanse in front of the hotel encloses a beautiful Italian garden.

In their furnishings and décor, the main lobby, salons and public rooms have recaptured the atmosphere and style of turn-of-the-century Milan. It is the style called “eclecticism” by historians of architecture: a synthesis of the different international currents, which influenced Milan architecturally at that time and found expression in the Milanese belle époque. Indeed, both its façade and interiors are a faithful historical-cultural restoration of that period. However, the requirements of modern times have not been neglected. Wainscote wood paneling that serves to frame wall-coverings of precious damask; furniture inspired by the creations of the celebrated Maggiolini; carpeting, rugs and curtains designed exclusively for the Principe di Savoia; towels and bed-clothing in pure linen: each room conveys a note of elegance and refinement. The rooms are perfectly sound-proof, have air-conditioning and thermostatic heating control, a refrigerator bar, a telephone with direct outside dialing, a radio and revolutionary interactive televisions with LCD TFT high resolution flat screens to receive international broadcasts (American, British, French and German) via satellite.

Particular care has been given to bathroom comfort. The bathrooms are spacious and enlivened with marble tiling in soft colors. Together with toiletry items, guests find a hair dryer, soft bathrobes and a telephone outlet.
