| The Ice Hotel in Sweden is a dream turned into reality year after year, as the hotel is rebuilt every winter. An unbelievably unique experience from start to finish. |
EXPERIENCEA hotel built of dreams, over the past seventeen years, a new hotel of snow and ice is built every winter. It sounds like a fairy tale, but in fact, it is a dream. The Ice Hotel is situated in the village Jukkasjärvi, 200 km north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The heart and backbone is the Torne River flowing freely through the unspoiled wilderness. Covered with a meter thick ice layer in the winter time, the river is the source of all the hotels art, architecture and design. The pure water and steady movement of the river create the clearest ice possible. The story of Ice Hotel is indeed a fairy tale come true. Covered by up to a meter of ice for most of the year, the river is the source of all our materials for art, architecture and design.
At the Ice Hotel there are several accommodation options to choose from. And of course you can also combine types of accommodation – for example, one night in the Ice Hotel and the remaining nights in one of our heated alternatives. In the cold accommodations, after a day of adventure, nightfall approaches quickly. The outdoor temperature drops and when you step inside the Ice Hotel, you feel a rush of warm air. Inside, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. All rooms are uniquely decorated with ice art and sculptures. Or if guests prefer the warm accommodation, as the temperature plummets toward minus 30 degrees, the snow crackles underfoot and the cold makes the walls of the buildings crack.
At the Ice Hotel the many delicacies offered by nature are served both as traditional dishes and as part of an exciting cross-over cuisine inspired by global culture. For that extra touch of the Arctic, many dishes are served on ice plates made from the crystal clear ice of the Torne River. The cuisines at the Ice Hotel Restaurant have been featured in gourmet magazines around the world. Situated only 800m from the Ice Hotel, overlooking the Torne River is the Old Homestead Restaurant, in a historical log building, dating back from 1768, guests are offered a well composed À la Carte Menu in a cozy environment.
Join one of the hotels wilderness camps, where meals are cooked beneath the open sky and guests experience the great outdoors north of the Arctic Circle. The Ice Hotel arranges tailor made daytrips and overnight excursions. During winter venture into the wilderness by snowmobile or dogsled, in summer go river rafting or explore the wilderness on foot or hike in the magnificent land of the midnight sun. Meals are prepared in a kåtor, Sámi style huts, situated along the beautiful shores of the Torne River; enjoy the delicacies of the local cuisine by the open fire. On the overnight excursions guests stay at specially equipped camps which are in secluded locations. After an adventurous day in the outdoors the hot sauna offers great relaxation before dinner. LOCATIONJukkasjärvi is located 12 km from the Kiruna Airport and 17 km from the Kiruna train station. On weekdays there are local buses from Kiruna bus station to the Ice Hotel. Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden. CONTACT | | | Overnight Sensations | | EUROPE MIDDLE EAST AFRICA | 99 USD |
