The remains of numerous fortified sites (Pa's) are visible from the roads that pass the range.
The surrounding area boasts a wide array of activities to cater to all tastes and inclinations. Guests can explore the verdant surrounding countryside and rural townships. Visit the areas finest stud farms, go fishing on Lake Karapiro, Hot Air Ballooning to Jet Boating and a must-see is The Waitomo Caves and Tauranga, just an easy one-hour drive from Rotorua.

Each suite or villa is individually decorated and has air conditioning, a super king-size or twin beds, dressing room, sitting area, cable television and a desk with internet access. All have ensuite bathrooms with a double spa and separate shower.
Maungatautari's quiet and contemplative corners include a secluded library, conservatory and a private terrace that gives uninterrupted views of beautiful Lake Karapiro.
