Mesón Panza Verde

Meson Panza Verde was established in 1986 as one of the first European style bed and breakfasts in Antigua, Guatemala. People often ask about their name. Panza Verde is what generations of Antigüeños have called themselves. No one is quite certain of the full story, but it is said that the people who remained living there after the Capital was moved to Guatemala City were so poor that they had to subsist on avocados. Being a Panza Verde is mentioned with great pride.

Just beyond the entrance at the Inn, there is an inviting central garden and fountain surrounded by a veranda that is quintessential Antigua. The restaurant is considered one of the finest in the country. Its reputation for "international cuisine with a twist" has made it a favorite with Guatemalans and international travelers alike.

The Inn has nine lovely suites and three double rooms. Each of the rooms has its own personality and is decorated with Spanish Colonial antiques, hand made textiles and weavings, original art and turn of the century chandeliers. Amenities include beautiful fireplaces, cozy bathrobes and fresh flowers. Go up the grand staircase, containing and chandelier and overhead skylights, to reach the second floor landing. To the right through antique painted doors is the Grand Suite 12, designed to be the owner’s apartment while being in Antigua. It is the largest of all the suites. During the spring and summer of 2006, the Inn has made many improvements to the rooms including the addition of 400 thread count Egyptian cotton bed linens in all the suites. The Inn has also completed the Business and Guest Services Centre for guests to access to the internet, make telephone calls as well as book tours and activities through well informed personnel.

Ideally located at the quiet end of famous Fifth Avenue, it is a pleasant four blocks walk from Antigua's main Plaza and Cathedral down a cobble stone street past wonderful ruins and several delightful shops. Only 18 miles from Guatemala City.
