The Lodge at Tikana

The Lodge at Tikana is a deer and horse ranch located in the fertile hills near Browns. It is the ideal place for easy access to Fiordland, the Catlins and Stewart Island.

Guests who are fortunate enough to stay at Tikana will enjoy exclusive use of this purpose built sanctuary. The Lodge is yours and yours alone for your stay. You have the run of the place, from the espresso machine and the library full of books and DVDs to the double soaking tub with a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The floors are heated, and the living room features a wood-burning fireplace.

Tasting the delicacies of a country is a part of the adventure of traveling and Southland’s prime lamb, beef and venison, cooked to perfection, or its plethora of delectable seafood, will wet your palate. Each course of your evening meal is brought to you individually in your private dining room within the lodge.

The personalized menu is discussed with you each day. As you are their only guests, your menu choice and the time of dining are tailored to suit you. Your preferences and dietary requirements are all taken into consideration when your meals are prepared with the finest quality produce and fresh herbs from the garden. There is a strong emphasis on the use of organic produce.

Add to that, the choice of the best New Zealand wines or beers and it’s an epicurean delight. The fridge is well stocked with delicatessen-type food for you to nibble on.

On-site activities include hiking, a grass tennis court for those of a sporting bent. For the more active, day trips can be arranged in cooperation with various Southland tour operators including Fiordland by helicopter. Somehow they’ve even managed to figure out how to bring in professional therapists for spa treatments.

If you have been out all day seeing the sights, the tranquility of The Lodge’s setting will invade your soul on your return as you start to unwind without even thinking, lying in the duo bath looking out the bi-fold windows across the real New Zealand landscape, with a glass of fine wine from the wine cellar.
