Villa Mangiacane is a noble and majestic villa set on a beautiful hill above Sant’Andrea in Percussina, halfway between Florence and San Casciano. Its Name, which in Italian means ‘the dog that eats’ or, ‘eat the dog’, refers to the imposing stone dog sculptures that used to guard the villa from atop its gate’s pillars. It is said that even Michelangelo participated in designing the Villa, though the original project was by Giorgio Vasari The Younger, nephew of the more famous painter, architect, and art historian, Giorgio Vasari, who designed the Uffizi gallery in Florence and the Vasarian Corridor.
In the year 2000, Villa Mangiacane’s fate was rescued when a Southern African entrepreneur discovered the villa and lovingly restored it to its former splendor, including two vineyards and an olive press. These days, the Villa Mangiacane estate produces its own wines and presses its own oil. Furthermore, the original 17th and 18th century frescoes were all renovated and an intensive outdoor sculpture garden was created in order to combine the exceptional Tuscan landscape with human’s artistry and nature’s beauty.
Villa Mangiacane consists of a main house with eight lavish suites are featured and high-quality service is never lacking. Each Suite looks out beyond the Villa’s private park to the enchanting Tuscan landscape.
