Ideas for the End of the Year

Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, Interlaken, Switzerland
At the Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, opt for a VIP extravaganza. You stay in my favorite suite, the two-floor, 2,000 sq ft Tower Suite, a vision of sunflower yellow, black and white with fabulous valley views. Included options include your choice of a personal trainer or a helicopter flight with Champagne on a glacier.

Raffles Hotel Singapore
Last year we coincided with the magical Christmas concert in the three-floor main lobby at Raffles. Every evening during the holiday season the superb choir of Victoria College students sings 7.30-8pm in front of a giant Christmas tree, with four sparkling chandeliers overhead.
Monasterio
Take an escorted tour of Cusco and Machu Picchu. Arrange it via the concierge at Orient-Express' Monasterio del Cusco, where rooms have oxygen concentrators to overcome altitude sickness that you may feel at first, 11,000 feet above sea level. (At Machu Picchu, where you will stay in a garden terrace room at the Sanctuary Lodge, leave time to climb Huayna Picchu.)
The Peninsula Palace
The Peninsula Palace's Academy program includes one that really appeals, an architectural tour by bicycle rickshaw - and then leaving for the airport in the hotel's Silver Spur Rolls-Royce. My favorite rooms here are those that give access to the 13th floor club lounge.
InterContinental Hong Kong
Harbor-facing rooms at the Kowloon-side InterContinental have all-wall windows looking over to Hong Kong Island, perfect to view the nightly 8pm multi-colored laser show from the top of Central district's top banks and other highrises. A really sensational way to watch would be while drinking Dom Perignon in the glass-walled infinity hot-tub on the third floor terrace.
Ashford Castle
Spend an evening reminiscing and forecasting as you both, or all, sit inside the inglenook - the small room with seats right inside a massive working log fireplace - at the historic Ashford Castle, dating back to 1228. Later, enjoy bedroom 326, with fourpost bed, heated towel rail and view over the illuminated fountain and tranquil Lough Corrib lake.
Chewton Glen
Chewton Glen is booked solid over Christmas and New Year but there is space between for those who covet what is arguably the most extensive hydrotherapy pool in Europe. You also have an Olympic indoor pool with columns and trompe l'oeil decor, and you can work off yet more excess with walks, golf or indoor tennis.
