Vasso Vlachou is in charge of the Club InterContinental on the eighth floor of the 543-room hotel: the lounge, decorated by Pierre-Yves Rochon and hung with some outstanding modern Greek art, has a big terrace with a superb view of the Acropolis. Her recommendation for going out to eat would be Ithaki fish restaurant, but the hotel actually has some excellent restaurants, including Café Zoë, designed by Tony Chi, and the top-floor Premier. The Conrad Bangkok, ThailandLudivine Schock heads the team at the 29th floor club lounge, re-opened on September 1st after renovation. It is definitely worth trading up in this 395-room hotel to make sure that your suite package includes airport service, which uniquely - in Bangkok, that is - includes meeting you right at the door of the plane (and also request the SLK-200 Mercedes limo with lady driver). Niamh O'Connell - who came from Steiner's cruise ship spas - is manager of Plateau, the 11th floor spa-hotel within the massive 570-room main hotel. Guests in the 14-room Plateau find an oasis of light wood and calm: WOW.travel liked room 1110, for its angled floor-to-ceiling views across the harbour to Kowloon, and the glass wall at the head of the floor-set futon also forms one side of the bathing area beyond. Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai, ChinaCanada-born Judy Leung is manager of the Horizon Club on the 29th floor of Tower Two of this 981-room room hotel, run by GM John Rice. There are many restaurants here, including Jade on 36, which you enter via a 4.5-meter high gate formed, by designer Adam Tihany, like a deconstructed rice bowl: Judy says it serves amazing cuisine with breath-taking views of the Pudong cityscape and the Bund. Outside the hotel, her favourite restaurants are 1931, for a taste of Old Shanghai, and Laris at Three on the Bund (which gives views back across the Huangpu River to your hotel). Four Seasons Hotel Sydney, AustraliaThe 32nd floor Regent Club, available to all suite guests and a limited number who purchase a pass, is run by Jane Larucci, who is personally on duty by 6.30 most mornings (she also runs the business centre which is part of this complex). Jane recommends the hotel's own Kable's, named for one-time convict Henry Kable who later became a respected ship owner at The Rocks, the historic shopping area five minutes' walk from the hotel. The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, BC, CanadaDarren Klingbell is head of the excellent concierge team at the ninth floor Fairmont Gold lounge (he personally has been known to rush right across town to get an urgent Apple component for a highly-strung guest). There are innumerable cafés and bars on nearby Robson Street but he recommends taking a taxi to West Restaurant & Bar on Granville Street.
