Keeping Fit
The Fairmont Banff Springs, Alberta, CanadaDevil's Cauldron, the fourth hole on the Stanley Thompson course, is one of life's memorable challenges (as is, one must admit, extreme mountain-biking with the resort's GM, David Roberts!). Skiing on Mount Norquay, only minutes away, is some of the best in The Rockies, and there is weekly night skiing January through March (the facility has 90% snowmaking capacity). Plan ahead for an all-family fitness vacation (end of May or early June are ideal, if you have pre-schoolers). Your kids absolutely adore the free Treehouse club, which offers a swim hour, movies, themed dinners, and lots of other activities. Parents can keep in shape running on the beach, playing the ten tennis courts and The Country Club, The Old Nine or The Green Monkey (Tom Fazio) golf courses. There is no excuse for not keeping fit here - activities include golf (the King's, Queen's, Wee, or the Jack Nicklaus PGA Centenary courses) but also walks, horse riding, shooting, off-road driving, and mountain biking.
