Baby Thoughts?

Grand Hotel Europe, St Petersburg, Russia
This is just such a romantic place to hole up in, with memories that Tchaikovsky and waltz-king Johann Strauss were loyal guests. Designer Michel Jouannet has transformed corridors with salmon and white paint, brilliant lighting, and rooms have parquet floors, imperial fabrics. Revel in the hotel's caviar bar and chocolate factory, enjoy breakfast in the Art Deco L'Europe, with its enormous stained glass windows. This is a hotel for babies - the lovely Russian wife of GM Thomas Noll is expecting twins any day now.

Grand Hotel Europe
Le Quartier Francais
GM Linda Coltart says this 17-room resort, 60 miles from Cape Town, is ideal for a sabbatical to take time for yourselves before a birth. Four Quarters Three is an especially tranquil upstairs room, colored in greens and jades. Order your favorite movies for a private session in the screening room, and enjoy chef Margot Janse's cuisine (and prepare for retail spend, many say the boutique here is the best hotel shop - anywhere!).

North Island
Virtuoso CEO Matthew Upchurch honeymooned here, and has since returned. You think you have the entire 600 acre island to yourselves, to explore, dine where you like - on a beach, in the organic garden, wherever. Your 4,500 sq ft villa, one of only 11, has its own plunge pool, and total privacy. Some never venture out, merely enjoying a temporary home that you wish would last forever, but finally it is time to leave, by Bell 206 helicopter for the airport 15 minutes away on Malé Island. Justin Arenhold is GM of this exotic paradise.

Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui
Your villa, one of 60 on stilts on the steeply-sloped curved surround to the crescent-shaped beach, is an exotic hideaway. Lie in your enormous Sealy bed, made with finest Frette linens, look out at your teak terrace with its private 30-ft pool. Around, 850 mature coconut palms dot the landscape, hiding your neighbors. If you do not want to go up to the spa, ask director Helen Almgrens to send a therapist to you, say for a five-elements treatment. Lazy lunches at Pla Pla restaurant need to be followed by siestas. GM Rainer Stampfer wants his guests totally to de-stress.

Huka Lodge
The Crown Prince of the Netherlands honeymooned here at the same time that Queen Elizabeth was visiting, again - this 23-villa luxury resort, on the bank of the fast-flowing Waikato River, is that kind of place. Yes, you can be active (fishing, golf, whatever) but you can merely laze the days away, cocooned in designer Virginia Fisher's palette of soft grey and moss colors and leather, and the view across 20 feet of grass to the river's spray. No televisions interrupt your peaceful theater, though telephones are brought on request. Dine as a pair, in the wine cellar, or in an upstairs library - it is your choice, says GM Willem Pentermann.

Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows
Real stars - not wannabe celebrities - know that the seclusion of one of the bungalows here is the ultimate (the WOW.travel editor could hardly pull herself away from the working fire in bungalow 7-a). Around, the 203-room luxury resort has 12 acres of lush gardens, which include a pool with cabanas managed by one of the best concierges around. GM Alberto del Hoyo, indeed, runs an ultimate style center: we love the Polo Lounge, Bar Nineteen 12, the basement soda fountain and of course, the signature lifesize palm wallpaper in what seems like acres of interior corridor.

Baglioni Hotel London
This 66-room 'home', run by GM Luca Virgilio, is a few minutes, by complimentary Maserati, from Harvey Nichols, which has a Christian Louboutin boutique. Back in signature suite 103-4, looking straight across the road to idyllic Kensington Gardens and Kensington Palace, you have two working fires, and your California king-size bed is flanked by yard-tall gold urns bearing gold branches. Mummies-to-be find this place exotic, with a hint of the erotic. Where else can you breakfast, off divine fruits and carve-yourself ciabatta, under black Murano chandeliers?
