The two-floor hotel rises above a promontory jutting right into the archipelago between Stockholm and the Baltic, next to Gashaga Brygga rail station, a mere 20 minutes to downtown.  'J' is for the America's Cup yachts in the 1930s, and all 13 rooms, on the upper level, have a nautical feel, with blue and white fabrics and polished wood. Ralf Thalén oversees the hotel, and its integral all-day restaurant-lounge.

Architect Lech Bunnag has produced a series of massive stone pools (lit at night by water-set fire bowls), with stone buildings, including 136 rooms, nestled around.  Presidential Suite 312 seems to flow out into the water, which comes up to its external window sills. Everywhere, there are reflections, and calm. Gm Kapil Chopra runs this four-year old hotel that already seems part of India's eternal heritage.

Like a giant white cruise ship, this seven-floor hotel rises above Princess Wharf in Freemans Bay.  The 167 rooms, designed by Kevin Fitzgerald, are white, gold and wood, with New Zealand art.  Gm John Ingram runs the hotel, which includes the highly popular Dan Kwan-designed White restaurant, with stunning over-water views and a buffet suitably shaped like a ship.
