Hotel Sky Bars
Habita Hotel, Mexico City, MexicoAREA, the daily 120-person rooftop bar, atop the six-floor hotel in the Polanco area is open until 2am on weekends. Designers Enrique Norten and Bernardo Gómez Pimienta have added a jacuzzi and 45-foot lap pool for extra theater - in winter, there are patio heaters and a working fireplace, and football matches may be projected on to a neighboring building. Apple and mango martini is current bestseller.

The fourth floor terrace Siren Bar and Uber Lounge comes complete with 34ft infinity-edge swimming pool. Relax in the curtained cabanas, designed, like the hotel, by David Rockwell (do not miss his 'living wall' down on the first, ground, floor). Servers wear chocolate brown dresses with satin finish, by Siren Bar and Uber Lounge's Creative Director, Anissa Manfredi.
Club 50, on the 50th floor of one of the Icon Towers, is invitation-only, but guests of the 148-room hotel on the first to 15th floors, below, are welcomed. Definitely dress in your best for this exclusive 75-person area, complete with 12ft-wide daybeds (designer is Kelly Wearstler).

The 12th floor rooftop O2 Lounge designed by Peter Silling, is built around a central atrium over which 12 giant lampshades hang. There's a popular sushi bar, and a mannequin wears a sabrage outfit in case you want to try slicing the top off at least one bottle of Piper Heidsieck Brut. Best selling cocktail is mojito, any kind, you choose. At weekends, a live-DJ spurs the dance floor to life.
Vu's Bar, on the 51st floor, gives panoramic views of the Dubai skyline and the Arabian Gulf through to 3am every morning - glass is Riedel, and head barman Harsha Haputhanthrige can suggests a mojito or a non-alcoholic fruit concoction. The Mediterranean-nosh nibbles menu includes our favorite bite-sized deep-fried mozzarella balls. Designer of the 400-room hotel is Design Division Dubai.

Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar, both outdoors, are a vertiginous 61 floors up - but only go when the weather permits. Designer HD Lim has, not surprisingly, relied heavily on the natural vista to give this rooftop ambience: go early evening, and watch the sunset through to night before the 11:30pm night closing (if you are really keen, the hotel hosts an annual vertical marathon, up all 1,073 steps to this venue).
To cap it all, the China Bar here, designed by Peter Remedios, is on the 67th floor - but it is not outside. You still get sensational skytop views, with live jazz, right through from 5pm to 1am. Enjoy a glass of Alfred Gratien Cuvée Brut or one of the signature cocktails, Caipirinha, Manhattan or Mojito, or make the most of the vintage wine list, with many labels by the glass. If you want a little exercise afterwards, it is a mere 72 steps down to the hotel's 63rd floor lobby.
