New Years Bars
The Beverly Hills Hotel and Bungalows, Los Angeles, California, USAThe New Year's Eve party in Nineteen12, designed by Glenn Texeira, will be orchestrated from 9 pm by deejay Lo. Bar manager Philip Spee recommends a Prickly Pear Margarita, which blends Prickly Pear Purée with Cazadores Tequila, Cointreau and a lime-lemon-syrup margarita mix. WOW.travel loves the hotel’s discreet bungalows.

Le Bar’s mixologist Thierry Hernandez suggests a Rose Royale, your choice of Champagne blended with fresh raspberry puree, or choose whatever from digital menus. Deejay Adriana will be running the New Year party until 5 am on January 1st, 2010: plenty of time to admire Patrick Jouin’s bar design, with blue Murano chandeliers and a ‘bathtub’ overhead.
Raspberry liqueur, plus Absolut Mandarin, lime juice and Angostura, make up How Passion Falls, Wolfgang Bogner’s signature cocktail in the Onyx Bar, designed by HBA/Ramseier & Partner, Zurich. The evening here will be, apparently, open-ended. We love the ceiling-high bottle displays, including Murano grappas, and, throughout the hotel, 91 artworks that include Lynn Chadwick’s Sitting Lady.

From the first heavy snows of November on, Ice Bar is set up immediately outside the hotel, at the corner of Nevsky Prospect and Mikhailovskaya Ulitsa (wear your best furs, to keep warm!). There are ten seats, but plenty of standing room, and the party will go on all night – you can also retreat, inside, to the stylish Caviar Bar, for the hotel’s own Beluga, Oscietra and Sevruga, with chilled vodka from an imperial recipe dating to 1894.
The Scarlet Hotel, SingaporeBOLD Bar is just that, thanks to creative director Michael Tan’s use of color, and a Porto Oro marble-and-black, padded leather bar with under-counter lighting, and grey mirror-clad ceilings, and ostrich feather cushions. At New Year, as every night, enjoy Belvedere, Grey Goose or another premium vodka, or a signature Mojitos with pork ribs or seafood lollipops, www.thescarlethotel.com.

Veuve Clicquot will be served at the arrival of 2010 in MO Bar, designed by Adam Tihany. Deejay Helen will be working with Oliver on the sax and Kumi on percussion (their overall theme will be music from the 60s to the Noughties). Head mixologist Agung Prabowo recommends, also, an Asian Mind, namely Bombay Sapphire gin, grapefruit juice, fresh ginger.
Intercontinental Resort Tahiti, French PolynesiaThe Tiki Bar, run by manager Julien Jacquin, will be serving Absolut specials in coconut hells and whole pineapples. After the sun sets behind the peaks of Moorea, the party will commence, attracting, as always, local residents as well as guests of the 263-room hotel (when WOW.travel last stayed there, we particularly appreciated the overwater bungalows, the gardens and three pools, and breakfast fruit), www.tahiti.interconti.com.
