Where Celebs Go on Summer Vacation
by Joy PecknoldStars, they’re just like us, they also take summer vacations, and since they’re such avid travelers, it’s a pretty good idea to take a page from their travel diaries. We review a few vacation destinations where celebs, such as Gwyneth Paltrow or Ellen Degeneres, have recently or repeatedly holidayed.
Where Celebs Go on Summer Vacation
The Greek Isle of Mykonos has long brought celebs to its shores. Back in the 1960s, it beckoned Brigitte Bardot, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Grace Kelly. Last July, it was a summer playground for model BFFs Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. They went go karting, hit up beach parties and lounged by the pool. To pose for your own glam Instagram pics in peace, book one of Kivotos Mykonos’ signature suites or villas with a private pool.

Oh, how famous people love Turks and Caicos, let us count the ways. Cindy Crawford, Julia Roberts, and Gwyneth Paltrow are among a long list of regulars to COMO Parrot Cay, a private island retreat with all the sugar-white sand one could wish for. Amanyara Turks (pictured) is another popular spot, and it’s where Kim Kardashian and sister Kourtney recently holidayed together. Beyond being a choice setting for bikini selfies, they have some of the best diving in the Caribbean here. Massages, candlelit dinners, those too.

Ellen Degeneres and Portia De Rossi recently hit up two spots in Africa—Rwanda to experience gorillas and Tanzania for a Serengeti safari. For the latter, the couple once again went with Singita (they also did back in 2015), and there are three properties in Tanzania, including Singita Grumeti Sabora Tented Camp. For the former, the place to stay is Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge—from here they’ll guide you into the National Volcano Park to see the mountain gorillas.

John Legend, Chrissy Teigen and daughter Luna took a family wellness vacation to the Ubud region of Bali in July last year. While Teigen is a stellar cook herself, by staying at the COMO Shambhala Estate they had access to the resort’s resident nutritionist and Ayurvedic doctor for their meal plans. Comedian and talk show host Chelsea Handler visited recently too, also tacking on a stop in seaside Uluwatu, although it’s unclear whether her trip was wellness-related or strictly indulgent.

In June of last year, Kate Hudson toured Cambodia with her boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, where they took a guided tour of local markets and visited Angkor Wat at sunrise to preempt the crowds. Beyoncé took her own epic trip earlier that year. Siem Reap is the hub near the temples and home to a number of incredible hotels, including Park Hyatt, Belmond and Anantara (pictured) resorts.

Having spent time living in Spain as a teenager, Gwyneth Paltrow considers the country a second home. Last summer, she spent time in the countryside region of Castilla-La Mancha. Here, Valdepalacios offers some very Goop things, including lots of wine, a Michelin-Starred restaurant and spa treatments.

Was it Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday that made us all want one for ourselves? Zoe Kravitz and boyfriend Karl Glusman provided more recent travel inspo last July. We aren’t sure what they did other than looking stylish, wandering the streets and drinking Peronis, but Rome is good for all that and more. We dig the idea of staying in a boutique hotel, such as the traditional Villa Spalletti Trivelli or the avant-garde G Rough (pictured).

The City of Light’s radiance near seems to dull, and pulls stars into its orbit even in the high season. Last June, Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez followed up the French Riviera with time in Paris. They stayed at Le Meurice, and visited the Louvre, Jardin des Tuileries and the Chanel boutique on Avenue Montaigne pretty much like any tourist would.
