Virgin Limited Edition: Sir Richard Branson’s Destination Retreats

by Eva Zhu

Hand-picked by Sir Richard Branson himself, each Virgin Limited Edition hotel is as exclusive, unique and magical as the next. From private islands to safaris, these destination retreats are truly immersive experiences in some of the most unforgettable locations. Within Kiwi Collection, they are some of our most special properties—read on to see why.

Necker Island, British Virgin Islands

Richard Branson’s private Necker Island is a playground for A-listers but when he and his friends are not here, it’s yours to enjoy. You can book a room or the entire island. With the latter, all 72 acres are yours and it comes with a team of dedicated staff plus all meals and beverages (the boozy variety too). The island also supports a local school and is on its way to becoming energy independent, so you can feel good enjoying paradise.

Kasbah Tamadot, Morocco

It was Branson’s parents that first fell in love with Kasbah Tamadot, a tranquil Moroccan retreat in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. There are only 28 rooms, suites and luxury Berber tents, each individually decorated with traditional furnishings and antiques. Designed for indoor-outdoor living, this stunning home takes full advantage of its setting with sweeping vistas of the valley and desert from the pool, rooftop or your private accommodation.

Mont Rochelle Hotel & Vineyard, South Africa

The Western Cape is one of the most beautiful parts of South Africa and also home to one of its greatest exports: wine. Just an hour’s drive outside Cape Town is Mont Rochelle, a hotel and vineyard in one, offering the perfect trifecta of gourmet dining, vino and rolling hills. The rooms and suites blend country chic with French elegance, and open to the valley or courtyard. Don’t overlook the four-bedroom Manor House, it’s the latest addition to the estate.

Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, South Africa

Ulusaba translates to “place of little fears,” which references the koppie hill that was a former lookout point. Now a private game reserve, Ulusaba’s Rock Lodge gives guests the same surreal views. Closer to the ground is the Safari Lodge, offering tree house-style rooms by the riverbed. Wherever you sleep, your stay includes all meals and twice daily game drives through 13,500 hectares of private reserve to find The Big 5 and The Little 5.

The Lodge, Switzerland

Sir Richard Branson’s hideaway in the Swiss Alps is no ordinary lodge. There are only nine cozy rooms and suites, but this mountain retreat in the world-class resort town of Verbier has an indoor pool, both indoor and outdoor Jacuzzis, Michelin-trained chefs and a spa therapist. In the winter, you can enjoy 400km of skiable terrain and fabulous après-ski (the bar never closes). In the summer, there’s paragliding, rock climbing and mountain biking.

Mahali Mzuri, Kenya

Mahali Mzuri is Branson’s luxury tented safari camp in the Kenyan Bush, which offers a front row seat to the Great Migration. This is true glamping; each of the 12 tents have en suite bathrooms and private decks, and two suites feature four-poster king beds. The all-inclusive safari experience comes with all meals and beverages, and both day and night game drives through the Olare Motorogi Conservancy.
