Laurence & Chico on NYFW, Shopping and the Most Stylish City
by Joy PecknoldWith their label’s atelier in Shenzhen, café in Vancouver and regular showings at New York Fashion Week, Laurence & Chico designers Laurence Li and Chico Wang log some serious air miles. Partners in business and life, the duo met in the Big Apple, so we thought it fitting to check in with them just ahead of their Fall/Winter ’19 presentation there to talk travel and style.
Our favourite shops in New York are 3NY and Opening Ceremony. 3NY is a concept store that carries really unique contemporary womenswear and accessories. They also carry our line!
As usual, we can’t give away too much but you can expect to see big, fun prints and large silhouettes.
Yes, we treat different cities with different functions. Shenzhen is great for production because we’re in close proximity to the factories and resources. Vancouver is always a great place to come to for relaxation. Whenever we are in Vancouver, we always find time to wind down and spend time expanding our lifestyle section of the brand. New York City is very busy and fashion-focused for us. Whenever we are in New York City, we fly in, focus on the business side of things, and then fly out. That’s the way we like it.
Our recent trip to Bangkok was amazing! We had the best time together and it was really inspiring for us.
(Laurence) When I’m travelling, I love to wear Pleats Please by Issey Miyake with a hoodie or a robe. I like to stay oversized and comfy.
(Chico) Without a doubt, New York City is the most stylish city.
When we’re in Hong Kong, we love to visit Joyce. They have some of the best luxury brands, such as Hermès, Balenciaga and Lanvin. Le Bon Marché is our favourite fashion store in Paris.
We can never leave home without our phones!
We’re foodies and cannot resist trying new cuisine when we’re traveling, so dining out at new restaurants is a big splurge for us.
