Fall in Love with Quebec at Fairmont Hotels & Resorts
by Eva ZhuSince 1907, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ iconic hotels have been synonymous with momentous occasions, from glittering balls to intimate celebrations with friends and family. Today, they are well recognized landmarks the world over, residing within grand, storied buildings and perched in the most privileged locations. Within Quebec, we have five Fairmont hotels and resorts forming a perfect itinerary for experiencing all sides of Canada’s French-speaking province, spanning historic cities, lush countrysides and world-class ski slopes.
FAIRMONT LE CHÂTEAU MONTEBELLO
Nestled on a rolling green hill in the countryside, along the flowing Ottawa River, is the world’s largest log cabin. A getaway for all seasons, the sprawling Fairmont Le Château Montebello boasts over 40 unique activities and experiences on its grounds. Amongst the many leisure activities here is a golf course designed by Stanley Thompson, large aquatic center and members-only yacht club. The guest rooms exude Quebecois charm, featuring chalet-inspired interiors complete with log walls and bay windows looking out to nature. With four restaurants serving the best of in-season cuisine, including an outdoor terrace and a Sunday brunch, eating well is an experience of its own.
FAIRMONT TREMBLANT
At the foot of the Tremblant peaks, surrounded by spectacular nature, Fairmont Tremblant is perfectly positioned for experiencing both adventure and relaxation. The alpine rooms, which include suites with full kitchens, overlook views of the mountain, woodlands or village. The dining is decadent, featuring the award-winning Choux Gras Brasserie Culinaire which also bakes up fresh bread and pastries. In the warmer seasons, hotel guests enjoy complimentary entry to the Parc Plage beach, and in the winter, first access to the ski lift. Après adventure, there’s a tranquil spa for relaxing in, and on weekend evenings, cozy campfires by the pool.
FAIRMONT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH, MONTREAL
Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, which underwent a $140-million makeover in 2017, is a fixture in the heart of downtown Montreal. Its newly renovated rooms are bold and artsy, inviting contemporary luxury while celebrating history with 1960s details—there’s a suite named after John Lennon and Yoko Ono, the very same one where “Give Peace a Chance” was written and recorded. Its locally inspired restaurant Rosélys* presents a taste of Montreal, and Marche Artisans is the place to find gourmet takeaways as well as a creperie and pizzeria. Also included in the renovations was the Moment Spa, offering a stylish reprieve and calming oasis in the middle of the city.
FAIRMONT LE CHÂTEAU FRONTENAC, QUEBEC CITY
Known as the Castle on the Hill, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac sits on a viewpoint overlooking the St. Lawrence River and cobblestoned streets of Old Quebec, the city’s fortified historic center and designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. Elegant and romantic, this grand dame hotel housing an impressive 610 guest rooms and suites blends modern luxury with a touch of European glamour. A delightful afternoon tea is served here, as well as cutting-edge regional cuisine by celebrated Chef Stéphane Modat. Not to be missed is a visit to the spa and health club, which houses a brightly lit indoor pool*, or guided tour on the history of the hotel.
FAIRMONT LE MANOIR RICHELIEU
Just a short drive outside Quebec City is the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu perched on the cliffs of Pointe-Au-Pic, encircled by mountains, forest and the village of La Malbaie. This stately manor is home to a panoramic golf course upgraded by renowned architect Darrell Huxham and award-winning spa. There’s also all the nature activities of the Charlevoix region, such as walking trails, whale watching tours and the Via Ferrata, a new rock climbing route on the hotel grounds. As with all Fairmont hotels, the restaurants are first rate, ranging from locally sourced fine cuisines to casual fare at the golf clubhouse—all accompanied by views sweeping over the Saint Lawrence River.
