Overview

An austere fortress amid desert dunes - inside the thick tan walls and heavy doors of Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa, you might just forget you're south of the hectic city of Dubai.

Enjoy rich local fare beneath billions of stars when you choose the Arabian Nights dinner.
Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa is admittedly quite secluded, standing alone in the silent desert. In sharp contrast to most luxury resorts crowded near the coast and around Dubai, this resort offers tranquility and a uniquely self-sufficient vacation stay.

While many resorts around Dubai target visitors, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort & Spa frequently wins the favor of upscale locals who need to escape.

With five restaurants and bars, an extensive water sports center (with lap pool, fountain, rainforest area, waterfall, and even a man-made beach area), stables, and camel riding, it's likely time will fly past before you even think about leaving the property.

It's in your best interest to make time for the resort's desert explorations. Take a jeep, horse, or camel out onto the dunes, or watch the scheduled falconry shows, which are guaranteed to make you glance twice at any overhead birds once you get back home.

Luxury Oasis in the Desert

Stayed two nights at this property and loved it from the moment I drove onto the property until I left. The staff polite, friendly, anticipated my needs even before I even realized what I needed. Very impressive. The pools are chill, zen and spa like. Great value for money when you are able to take advantage of the short camel ride, opportunity to hold a falcon and the plethora of breakfast food items at Al Forsan Restaurant. There are other restaurants to choose from so you should be okay for 5 nights without getting tired of the food.

My room was upgraded to Deluxe as mentioned in the VISA Rate I booked with. The room overlooked one of the pools, had its own semi private balcony, fruit platter, dates and premium chocolates with bottles of water were waiting for me. Bathtub was large enough to accommodate 1 comfortably, two would be snug. The rain shower heads were magical to experience. Water pressure strong and hot/ cold water was readily available. Rooms were quiet, channel selection enough with CNN and BBC. Turn down service was nice and while I was there they surprised me with a bubble bath. The staff remembered who I was throughout my stay and were never intrusive, but readily available to assist.

I was truly impressed and will definitely return again. My hats off to Bab Al Shams!

Peace
Norman

Bab Al Shams

Lovely resort out in the desert with a variety of swimming pools & facilities. Rooms very clean and well appointed. Coffee makers in room - excellent! However, the food was not great, especially at Al Forsan Restaurant - 5 star prices for 3 star food.

A bit dissappointed

First of all, it is a bit disappointing that the promopictures from the hotel differs from reality. While there on the pictures shows sand dunes just behind the swimming pool etc, the reality is bushes and grass.

The second most disappointing is the planes flying over at night, at a pretty low altitude. This both disturbed the sleep and the general impression of the hotel; I was seeking the silence and relaxed athmosphere, and this broke the illusion alot.

Third disappointment was the service by the pool. It most of the times took 15-20 minutes to get a cup of coffee and a bottle of water, and the water wasnt even cold (does really not matter to me if I get a glass of Ice, i want cold water - period). One of the times I even had to ask 3 times for the bottle of water, so it took appr 30 minutes before I got it. In general the service was good, and I really enjoyed the extra service the staff provided.

The room was delicate and nice, but the garden view was so-so. All I looked into was a tree and a wall.
