Overview

Bunga Raya Island Resort and Spa, Malaysia is a rustically luxurious tropical resort whose stunning good looks could convince any city-slicker to move to the jungle for good.

Everything about Bunga Raya Island Resort, Malaysia is exotic, from its setting on a coral reef island, to its name, which means "hibiscus" in Malay. Bunga Raya's 47 luxurious villas nestle into the lush tropical vegetation, and their private balconies offer a view of the crescent-shaped white beach rimming the postcard-perfect edge of the resort, just begging you to swim, sunbathe, and relax.

After a few days at Bunga Raya, you may wonder if you're turning into a mermaid - and even if you don't grow a tail, you'll surely win your sea legs. Go diving in search of colorful fish, kayak the South East China Sea, or take the resort's yacht for a spin. Landlubbers can find adventure by foot on a jungle trek, or via their taste buds at one of three restaurants: the Pantai Grill, the Wine Cave, and the Koi. At the end of the day, you'll be happy to rest your head on your frette linens below the wooden beams of your villa, handcrafted by local tradesmen.

Spectacular Bunga Raya

Loved it. My highest priority was being able to snorkel right from the beach and the marine preserve accessed from the hotel dock is really fantastic snorkeling. The dock itself is beautifully done and from the minute you see it, arrive, and start walking up that dock toward the resort it feels like another world. The freestanding bungaloes are very tastefully done with nice amenities, and although the need for buggy transport to and from the bungaloes to anyplace else seems like a nuisance, in fact the resort is small enough that it all runs smoothly and easily. I was also so impressed with the restaurant food, all beautifully presented and excellent. My stay was short, so I missed out on the Marine Education Center and any visit to the sister resort of Guyana so can't comment on that. Also, the resort mentioned that the conditions were absolutely perfect the weekend I was there and confirmed that the best time of the year here is Jun-Aug, while Dec-Feb can be disappointing due to monsoon season. I would certainly be glad to return to Bunga Raya!

Worst ever holiday experience with Bunga Raya Island Resort &Spa

This hotel pretended to be a 5 star hotel, but its max rate should be 3.5 stars... Dirty outdoor swimming pool, sun loungers were dirty... Restaurant offered food which was not tasty.... Even continental breakfast is not good, we asked the kitchen to re-do our "well fried" eggs couple of times because they were not done... SPA quality level is not 5 star also as we expected. And finally the sea was filled with garbage as the nearest villages just dispose all their rubbish right to the sea, so it is impossible to swim in the sea it even smelled terrible. All over the beach area was tonnes of garbage and rubbish... The hotel manager said they have already claimed the problem of water pollution is a Government problem, but it’s almost impossible to resolve it because they refused to pay for village’s relocation. But this catastrophe it very serious already and should be taken under consideration by other surrounded countries.

So if you like to get the possibility of rubbish on your holiday please go to Bunga Raya, I would never advise this hotel or even Borneo island as a good place to stay for a holiday.... I would also tell you that they require to pay full costs in advance before you arrive to the hotel and when after a 2 days staying in that 5 star hell we claimed our money back because we are leaving they refused to pay back, thanks to kiwi management who resolve that problem and they refund us for the rest paid days, but nevertheless our holiday was awful and instead of getting rest we lost our money and heath cause afterwards I got sick and my doctor confirmed that caused polluted water!!! So do not chose this hotel and be aware of the reality!
