Overview

The only hotel near the famed Inca ruins, Belmond Sanctuary Lodge matches luxurious comfort with ancient splendor.

Keep your eye out for the local holy man in the garden. Listening in as he prepares his offering to Mother Earth makes for an fascinating experience.
Built in the 1400s, the former Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is one of the world's great wonders - standing 2,400 meters (8,000 ft.) above sea level in the Peruvian Andes. You're still dumbstruck that you can see its cliffhanging ruins from the terrace of your suite, one of 29 rooms and two suites at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge.

Set amid gardens rife with orchids and other native plants, this boutique hotel tastefully plays up its proximity to the Lost City of the Incas. 12 of Belmond Sanctuary Lodge's rooms have mountain views, and all of them offer in-room dining. But don't miss dinner at stone-and-wood Tampu restaurant and bar, whose chefs are equally adept at Peruvian and international cuisine.

Also, no visit to this extraordinary place would be complete without a guided tour of the ancient city and its surrounding alpine jungle. When you return from a day of high-altitude exploring, bring your sore muscles back to life with a massage based on traditional Inca techniques.

Amazing Fabulous Experience

Once in a lifetime destination and worth every penny! I arrived at Machu Picchu by the Hiram Bingham train travelling through spectacular scenery being wined and dined along the way. The staff at Sanctuary lodge greet you personally on arrival with a welcome drink in the bar lounge while they take care of all your checkin details. They personally show you to your room giving you on overview of the hotel facilities including outdoor hot pool and spa facilities. The meals are delicious, prepared to a very high standard and served with delicious wines both local and from Argentina. I loved the Peruvian options on the menu giving you a chance to sample local dishes. One of the highlights of my stay at Sanctuary lodge was getting to observe the local birdlife through the windows of the dining room as they darted in and out of the foliage outside. Staying overnight was well worth it for the chance of an early morning view of Machu Picchu. I would highly recommend staying here at sanctuary lodge for a very special experience of visiting Machu Picchu.

Too expensive for what it is

The hotel is ideally located at the gates of Macchu Pichu, however you cannot see it from any point.
Confortable, nice, but too expensive for what they give you. Rooms are small and basic, the bathroom is also very small, almost for one at a time.
Food is average for the Peruvian standard.

Great location, and that´s it!
