Regardless of season, Resort at Squaw Creek, Lake Tahoe will keep even the most activity-hungry families busy with skiing, golfing, or swimming. Then again, there's always the spa.

Enjoy lunch on the terrace next to the cascading waterfall spilling over a series of granite boulders.
Set near the site of the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympics, Resort at Squaw Creek obviously presents a spot for those keen on hitting mach speed down powdery Lake Tahoe glades.

But ski conditions don’t hang around all year, and Resort at Squaw Creek takes advantage of all seasons. 405 rooms, suites, and penthouses are comfy year round, and boast LCD TVs, plus rustic American furnishings.

When the sun shines, get out on the Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course, fly fish on the river or in the pond, hike the Chief trail, ride horseback, or whip down the waterslide into the pool. After, make a run for the spa where any of 10 rooms will have your tired body relaxed in no time.

Dinging here is varied, with a number of choices to suit the tastes of world travelers and locals alike. Six Peaks Grille does fine dining with a local slant, while Ristorante Montagna's Italian fare is guided by "cucina povera" (humble cooking).

Peaceful mountain bliss

We visited during the off season so this hotel was really peaceful. Excellent, large room with great shower, fireplace and very comfy bed. Staff very helpful. Included breakfast good and surprise cheese plate delivered to room in evening as part of turndown service delicious. Only disappointment is that main restaurant is closed until thanksgiving and there was no mention of this in reservation process.
