Relive the bossa nova era at beachside Fasano Rio de Janeiro, a designer boutique hotel with elegance to spare.
Everywhere you look at Fasano Rio de Janeiro, it's a feast for the eyes. Conceived by French designer Philippe Starck, the hotel nods to the Rio of yesteryear with details such as 1960s-style furniture and vintage uniforms. But your 1,400 sq. ft. ocean-view Deluxe Suite feels thoroughly modern, from its marble bathroom with Duravit tub to its spacious hardwood-floored terrace.
Another visual treat awaits on Fasano Rio de Janeiro's rooftop deck, whose pool overlooks the delicious curve of Ipanema Beach. Before wandering down to the hotel's private beach stand, book a warm-stone massage from the Lancôme Beauty Center, which offers private spa treatments in all 89 rooms and suites.
Starck's opulent yet understated design is a meal in itself, but you'll also want to sample the fine Italian seafood at Fasano Al Mare, where Florentine chef Luca Gozzani heads the kitchen. For another taste of Europe, sip a pint at redbrick-and-leather Baretto-Londra, a bold tribute to London.
