Across the lagoon from this seemingly impossible mountainous spec sits Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa, a collection of over-water huts and villas set around an astounding deep-water spa.

As children, we're told to never touch living coral, as it may harm it's delicate balance with the ocean. But as with all things, coral will eventually meet a natural end, leaving behind its stone-like superstructure. Over time, those remnants form atolls … which brings us to Bora Bora.

On the idyllic Motu Piti Aau, an eastern atoll encircling the twin peaks of the central island, Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa has set up shop. Two wishbone-shaped docks extend out to the lagoon, branching out to 82 rooms. Each thatched-roof structure hovers over lazy waves, creating an aqua-oasis of French-Polynesian style.

After a breakfast of fresh fruit and bread on your sunny private deck, you'll be forced to choose: will you explore the seas via kayak and snorkel? Or will you float over to the spa, where deep seawater treatments await you?

Regardless of what you do with the sunny half of the day, strut your finest linen outfit over to le Bubbles Bar for late-night lounging, flirting, and if you're lucky, a moonlight dip.
