Built in a Regency style in 1847, this eclectic Tasmanian guesthouse has been restored to its former glory, and picked up a few new tricks along the way.

The Islington Hotel is a charming boutique property furnished with antiques and artwork, with lovely gardens and views of Mount Wellington.

There are only 11 rooms, all furnished with sumptuous fabrics, antiques, and exceptionally comfortable Islington Angel Beds. Many have French doors that open to the gardens. Designed by renowned garden landscaper Andrew Pfeiffer, the grounds feature a 100-year-old willow tree, as well as a French herbal garden (the chef's pride). Contemplate by the pond or relax by the wood-burning fireplace in the glass-roofed pavilion - it has a beautiful mountain view.

In the mornings, a home-cooked breakfast is waiting on the sideboard. In the evenings, enjoy complimentary cocktails and canapés in a room adorned with both Georgian antiques and contemporary paintings. You're only five minutes from the center of Hobart, where restaurants abound, but why not stay in for the night and ask the chef to prepare a private meal?
