How do we rate a property?

We rate all our hotels, resorts, and lodges using our own bespoke grading system. We'll only invite a property into our collection once it's been assessed by one of our specialists. If it doesn't impress us, it doesn't make the cut.

When you hear "lodge," you probably think rustic. Well, think again. Mateya Safari Lodge provides the kind of luxury you'd expect at the very finest big city hotels in a stretch of gorgeous South African wilderness.

Each day you'll have a choice of safari options, from game drives in a custom-built 4x4 to a guided walking safari around the reserve. You're assured of seeing the "Super 7" - buffalo, cheetah, leopard, elephant, rhino, wild dog, and lion.

Mateya Safari Lodge hosts a maximum of 10 guests at any one time. That makes for an incredible level of personal attention. And the spaces, of course, are beautiful. Each room is decorated with unique African art, and the amenities are luxurious: marble baths, canopied beds, and air conditioning. Try your private infinity pool for a relaxing end to a day of animal spotting, and follow it up with dinner under the stars beside a roaring fire.
