| Otahuna Lodge provides a complete experience combining unsurpassed elegance, superior accommodation, gourmet food, and fine wines. It's a tonic just being there – welcoming, gracious and serene! |
EXPERIENCEOtahuna Lodge is hidden by glorious century-old gardens and is one of New Zealand’s most important historic homes and best-kept secrets. Built in 1895 for Sir Heaton Rhodes, the three-storey homestead has been lovingly restored to her original grandeur, yet boasting all the modern amenities you would expect in an exclusive luxury lodge.
Each of Otahuna’s seven suites has a distinctive character and reveals a different element of the Otahuna story. Original fireplaces – some in the ensuite bathrooms – super king beds, and spectacular views add to the feeling of luxury and elegance. The two master suites and five suites retain grand architectural features from the 19th century such as ornate wood-burning fireplaces, carved inglenooks, and stained glass windows.
Food and wine are an integral part of the Lodge experience. The menu celebrates the best of fresh New Zealand produce with an emphasis on seasonal estate-grown offerings. Honest, uncluttered flavours, the finest ingredients and elegantly restrained presentation are the hallmarks of the Otahuna table.
Tucked away in the trees and opening out into the citrus garden is the Otahuna Day Spa. Originally the Homestead's wood-lined Laundry, the Day Spa retains some of the original fittings including a large copper and the iron-heating fireplace. Now newly decorated in the classic style, the Day Spa is warm, light and airy, perfect when a large pinch of personal pampering is required.
The wide variety of activities available at the Lodge include; horse riding, wine and food tours, cycling, art galleries, local walks, visits to nearby Akaroa, the original French colony, scenic flying… the list is truly vast. LOCATIONOtahuna is hidden away in Tai Tapu, just twenty minutes drive from Christchurch city in the glorious South Island of New Zealand. Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island and the magnificent Southern Alps. The Lodge can organize all transport details for you.
