Lazy Days at Soori Bali

by Joy Pecknold

After non-stop exploring in Seminyak and Ubud, my friends and I were more than happy to stay in one place for a few days and plunge into a deep state of relaxation. On Bali’s West Coast with rice paddies on one side and ocean on the other, Soori Bali, turned out to be the perfect place to do that. Here’s what that looks like.

First things first, cooling off. Bali boasts high humidity, so afternoon dips are a crucial item on the relaxation to-do list. All the villas come with private pools (and those big-brimmed brown straw hats to wear), but there’s also a large, central infinity pool to wade in.

Once you’ve cooled off, simply sit poolside and bask in doing absolutely nothing.

Surprisingly, doing nothing can really work up an appetite. But you needn’t move if you’re parked by the pool, they’ll bring yummy snacks right to you. All the food was staggeringly delicious, no exaggeration. Of course, the setting certainly helps make everything taste better.

If the afternoon sun gets too scorching, head up to their idyllic spa for a 90-minute massage. They’ll have four hands working on you at once, if need be.

Follow that up with a sunset walk along the black sand beach. Those cheesy travel adverts where people are wildly happy and the lighting is just right, yeah, in this case it’s completely real.

The result: bliss face. Those dark circles under the eyes have disappeared, a little sun has left a warm glow and the sweet fragrance of a fallen frangipani tucked behind the ear turns the corners of the mouth up permanently.
