Hotel Spotlights

In the Mood for Love

Stepping outside of regular life with your most significant other and letting a spectacular destination sweep you off your feet is a cliché for good reason: it’s just so gosh darn romantic. When a luxury hotel helps orchestrate all the skin-tingling magic for you, even better. No one is more well versed in the best places to woo and be wooed than the six always-traveling couples herein. In honor of Valentine’s Day, they each share where they’d spend a day to remember with the one they love.

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

Angie & Jeremy @missangievilla + @jeremyaustiin

“There’s no tropical destination in the world with a more dreamy and magical view than Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora. It’s where we recently got engaged. A perfect day here starts with breakfast in our overwater bungalow delivered by canoe. Then we would head off for a shark and sting ray excursion to swim with these beautiful sea creatures and snorkel in some of the most marine rich waters in the world. Next, we’d have the ultimate R&R in the Te Mahana Spa at Four Seasons—experiencing a coconut milk bath in the Overwater Spa Suite with your lover is a must!”

KATIKIES, SANTORINI

Lara & Uros @your_passport + @your_passage

“Katikies’ collection of luxury Greek hotels are destinations unto themselves. Our Santorini stay felt like home and it created a true Greek experience. We were able to completely switch off from the hectic world and so it became one of our favorite places on earth. We’d wake at about 9 a.m., emerge onto our private terrace, drink espresso, and devour fresh fruit and sugar-sprinkled pancakes. After, we’d swim in the infinity pool and enjoy the rhythms of the music, drink champagne and eat strawberries. At sunset, we’d go back up to our villa terrace where we’d admire the azure blue waters and most dazzling sky.”

*Note: there are five Katikies properties in Santorini

THE OBEROI MARRAKECH

Laura & Nicolas @laurandnicolas

The Oberoi Marrakech is an architectural masterpiece with amazing food and an incredible spa that’s perfect for some relaxation after a long day in bustling Marrakech. Our ideal day kicks off with having a coffee by our villa’s private pool, followed by breakfast overlooking the beautiful resort’s gardens. We’d then spend some time reading by the main pool before having a leisurely lunch surrounded by the citrus and olive trees. In the afternoon, we explore the souks trying to find original interior design pieces. To end, we’d have a couple’s massage at the hotel’s spa before feasting on a Moroccan meal at one of the Oberoi’s restaurants.”

CONSTANCE HALAVELI, MALDIVES

Judith & Mark @travelmonster.nl

Constance Halaveli is a romantic heaven on earth! Our day would begin with a walk around the island before heading to breakfast. After, we’d snorkel in the blue water to see the amazing underwater world Maldives has to offer, then enjoy some relaxing time with a massage at the spa. As the sun sets, we’d take cocktails and dinner on the beach, and to end the evening, a movie with champagne in our private villa.”

CARUSO, A BELMOND HOTEL, AMALFI COAST

Sarah-Louise & Christopher @the_adventuresofus

Caruso exudes romance. Hidden away, overlooking the Amalfi Coast in the town of Ravello, its views are unrivalled, food is delicious—think big bowls of lobster linguini—and atmosphere is enchanting. A breakfast buffet, Italian coffee and fresh pastries are on the cards for the morning. We’d head down to the iconic infinity pool and spend the day relaxing and staring out over the Amalfi coastline. Lunch would be a huge bowl of spaghetti vongole at the poolside restaurant. In the afternoon, we’d head to the Caruso Bar for sunset drinks as the incredible piano player performs Italian classics. In the evening we’d jump in a taxi to Positano for an Italian feast at one of our favourites, Da Vincenzo.”

BAWAH RESERVE, INDONESIA

Kim & Nash @thenomadicpeople

“The world is full of romantic destinations, but for us nothing is more magical than spending time together on a secluded island surrounded by white sand, turquoise water and an untouched coral reef just offshore. Bawah Reserve is one of the most beautiful resorts we’ve ever stayed at, a place where you can live completely in the now with one another, far from the worries of the world. For Valentine’s Day, we’d take a sunrise hike through the jungle to the other side of the island to watch the pink and purple hues light up the sky. After a divine brunch at their Tree Top restaurant, we’d embark on a snorkeling adventure, then return for a relaxing couple’s massage and romantic picnic on a private beach. To end, we’d paddle out on the serene lagoon just as its bathed in warm sunset colors before dining by candlelight.”
