5 Unforgettable Mother’s Day Getaways

Wine country to be exact, the best kind of country. Napa Valley Tourism has compiled a delectable list of the area’s Mother’s Day activities—including a three-hour wine train ride. But handing her a glass of Chardonnay and saying, “I’ve booked you in for a 90-minute massage,” also works. A great place for that: Milliken Creek Inn & Spa right on the Napa River.

The Big Apple never disappoints. An itinerary of shopping and Broadway shows is just the ticket for a Mother’s Day that will have you in her good books for years to come. The icing on the cake is putting her up in a palace, the Lotte New York Palace, at the center of it all. She’ll feel like a queen, then a star when you inform her that TV shows Gossip Girl, Will & Grace and Law & Order have all filmed here.

If mum’s a beach bum, whisk her off to paradise, quite literally, if it’s Paradise Island in The Bahamas. There, the One&Only Ocean Club also gives her a touch of France, as the gardens brimming with hibiscus and bougainvillea are modeled after Versailles. There’s also the other kind of green—an 18-hole golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf.

Another kind of paradise, Paradise Valley, delivers hot dry days and cooler nights. Here, The Hermosa Inn is a desert oasis framed by red rocks and fragrant flora. Over Mother’s Day weekend, they’re serving up a Mimosas and Monet art workshop, as well as a four-course brunch. Scottsdale is also a Mecca for upscale shopping.

While it may be nearly summer, ski mommies needn’t pack it in yet. Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler stays open until May 22 offering a last dash of snow. The white stuff is gone from the village, so it’s the best of both seasons. The Four Seasons Resort Whistler offers easy access to the hill, plus a spa and outdoor whirlpools for aprés-ski recovery.
