Two Days In: Barcelona

by Kiwi Collection and Andrea Marín

Two days in Barcelona, and the city has you from the first sun-soaked street. Wander the winding alleys of El Born, sip cava on a rooftop and soak in the artistry of Gaudí and Picasso. Born-and-raised local Andrea Marín of Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona guides you through a whirlwind of the city’s can’t-miss highlights.

CHECK IN

Barcelona At Your Doorstep

Sunlit boulevards, bold architecture, buzzy café culture and, of course, the Mediterranean right at your feet. Consider this your cue to dive right into Barcelona. And where better to experience it all from than Majestic Hotel & Spa Barcelona, perfectly placed on one of the city’s most prestigious avenues, Passeig de Gràcia.

Check in and take a moment to soak it all in. This is a hotel with history (opened in 1918, no less), but very much in step with the city’s now. Once you’ve settled, step outside and let Barcelona lead. On Passeig de Gràcia, Gaudí’s dreamlike icons are literally at your doorstep, from the wave-like façade of Casa Batlló to the sculptural curves of Casa Milà.

As evening rolls in, make your way back to the property and ease into the city’s flavor at Restaurant SOLC, where hyper-seasonal ingredients (many sourced from our hotel’s own farm) bring Catalan cuisine to life in the freshest way. Then, just when you think the day can’t top itself, head upstairs. A cocktail at La Dolce Vitae, the rooftop terrace, delivers sweeping city views and that first electric taste of Barcelona after dark.

Day 1

Start the morning like a true Barcelonian. The Majestic Breakfast Experience turns the first meal of the day into a ritual. In fact, it is so exceptional that it was previously awarded Best Hotel Breakfast in Europe at the Prix Villégiature.

Morning: The City’s in the Details

After breakfast, the nearby Eixample district beckons with its elegant streets, stylish boutiques and hidden courtyards—perfect for soaking in the refined design and unmistakable charm of Barcelona. For a cultural detour, visit Museu Tàpies, a contemporary art space set within a striking historic building that offers a fresh perspective on the city’s creative scene.

Next stop: the Sagrada Família. This year, the basilica hits a major milestone with the inauguration of one of its central towers—marking the centenary of Antoni Gaudí’s death and Barcelona’s “Year of Architecture.” Still a work in progress, it’s a symbolic moment that makes this iconic landmark an unmissable stop.

Midday: Graze the Day Away

For lunch, make your way to Colmado Murria, just a short stroll from the hotel. This beautifully preserved delicatessen, dating back to 1898, pairs old-world charm with a modern culinary touch. Surrounded by shelves of artisanal goods and vintage details, savor Spanish charcuterie, carefully selected cheeses and seasonal small plates that really show off local flavors.

Afterward, make your way to the Picasso Museum for a fascinating glimpse into the artist’s early work and get a taste of the city’s creative side.

Evening: From Dish to Dusk

Barcelona truly comes alive in the evening. Start with dinner at Disfrutar, one of the city’s most celebrated restaurants, where inventive techniques turn fresh Mediterranean ingredients into a meal you won’t forget. From there, drift into the Gothic Quarter and slip down Carrer de Petritxol—a narrow, storied lane lined with historic chocolate shops, perfect for a sweet pause.

Continue on and take a leisurely wander through the Born district, one of Barcelona’s most enchanting neighborhoods. Here, stop for a drink at Paradiso, ranked fourth on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2025 list.

Finish the night back at the Majestic with a final cocktail at La Dolce Vitae. I recommend the Mama-Bunda, made with Patrón Silver, pear liqueur, lime juice, vanilla syrup and ginger beer. Sip as the city lights stretch all the way to the sea—a perfect close to a full day in Barcelona.

Day 2

Bon dia—there’s more of Barcelona to explore today.

Morning: Take the Scenic Route

Day two calls for a slower start. Ease into the morning with a relaxed breakfast or a dip in the sun-soaked rooftop pool.

Then make your way to Gràcia, once its own village and still one of Barcelona’s most authentic neighborhoods. Here, leafy squares like Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia are lined with local cafés and bakeries. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in and watch the city go about its day. Locals chatting over coffee, shop doors swinging open and the morning sun spilling across the terraces.

If you’d rather stay nearby, the Majestic Experience, Made in Barcelona, is a fun way to soak up the city’s authentic vibe and creative energy. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at some of Barcelona’s coolest boutique ateliers and local hotspots.

Midday: Catch of the Day

Head back toward the city center for lunch at Bar Cañete, a lively local favorite known for standout seafood and a fresh take on classic tapas.

Afterwards, wander down La Rambla toward the Boqueria Market, where colorful stalls overflow with the richness of Catalan produce, from juicy fruit to Iberian ham and sweet treats. From there, keep things moving toward the water. A stroll along Port Vell or the Barceloneta promenade brings a welcome Mediterranean breeze—and a slower, sun-soaked finish to the afternoon.

Afternoon: Take Five, Barcelona Style

By the afternoon, it’s time to head back to the Majestic for a well-earned reset. The Majestic Spa is the perfect place to unwind, whether that’s a massage or a treatment to ease you out of exploration mode. Prefer to keep things light? Head up to the rooftop terrace instead. A glass of cava, a sparkling pool and a little breathing room above the city is an easy way to recharge before the evening begins.

Evening: The Last Encore

For your final evening, book a table at Alkimia, one of Barcelona’s most refined dining spots, where chef Jordi Vilà puts a fresh, creative spin on Catalan cuisine. It’s the kind of meal that feels like a proper send-off.

After dinner, keep the night going with a performance at the Gran Teatre del Liceu. This historic opera house, founded in 1837, pairs stunning architecture with world-class music—an unforgettable way to end your time in the city.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

Barcelona is a city that reveals itself slowly, through its architecture, its food, its neighborhoods and its unmistakable Mediterranean spirit. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, a stay at Majestic Hotel & Spa places you right at the heart of it all, the perfect starting point to take in the city’s energy, charm and everything in between.
