Where to Go for Endless Summer
by Joy PecknoldThe first Billboard No. 1 hit of the 1980s was a song by KC and the Sunshine Band called “Please Don’t Go.” Why bring this up now? Because it’s exactly how we feel about summer already slipping away from those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. The solution: a plan to head south. Outrun winter by escaping to one of these 10 always warm destinations.
Where to Go for Endless Summer
Encompassing 400 acres with two miles of Caribbean beachfront in Montego Bay, Half Moon offers three experiences in one—Founder’s Cove, Rose Hall Villas and Eclipse. The iconic Jamaican property is home to the award-winning Sugar Mill Restaurant, an 18-hole championship golf course and a private equestrian centre, among other things. Then again, simply basking in the sun and sea air with a cocktail in hand at one of umpteen pools and beaches is a worthy activity.

Those who need a little extra help getting back into a relaxed summer mindset can book an outdoor massage at the 30,000-square-foot Solaya Spa & Wellness Center.

Here, 10 minutes from the airport yet in a secluded spot, NIZUC Resort & Spa serves up an endless summer smorgasbord of six restaurants, numerous pools, two private beaches and that’s not even the half of it. One might say it’s like an all-season, all-ages summer camp, albeit much more luxurious—case in point, their seven-course Dom Pérignon experience.

While much of the U.S. is shivering, Miami enjoys an ideal average high of 75°F/24°C in December, which must be at least part of the reason they host an Art Basel event every year here early in the month. The pool with a Biscayne Bay view at the Mr. C Miami – Coconut Grove is the perfect place to post up and soak up the sun. All the rooms come with balconies for private basking too.

Heat-seeking humans aren’t the only ones who flock here—endangered hawksbill and green turtles return to these beaches every December to lay their eggs.

As summer for the top half of the globe ends, so does patio season, but that’s never the case at Vakkaru Maldives. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can all be enjoyed outside and over the water year round. Sipping cocktails at the Lagoon Bar while the sun colors the sky pink and tangerine looks especially appealing—but one needn’t leave their overwater villa to get that either.
