Set to host inaugural guests in October, Palacio Arriluce Hotel Getxo Bilbao turns a 101-year-old country house into a design lover’s dream. Employing a fresh mix of colours and textures, the spaces crisply combine classical and modern details. The cocktail bar set in a former chapel adorned with stained-glass is a prime example. Overlooking the Bay of Abra, the setting isn’t too shabby either. One of the best places to take it all in is from the rooftop pool.

In February, Turkish fashion brand Vakko made its first foray into the hospitality scene with the Vakko Hotel & Residence. Blacks, cremes and golds dominate the chic décor palette. All the requisite indulgences are housed within, including a restaurant, spa, state-of-the-art gym and even a Vakko store on the ground floor. Located in Istanbul’s Nişantaşı quarter, there’s also plenty of retail therapy to be had beyond the hotel’s front doors.

The year kicked off with a new Nobu Hotel in Marrakech. Within the Golden Triangle, it’s close to the iconic souks and vibrant Medina. The 71 suites feature Moroccan craftmanship with a subtle Japanese spin. There is a Nobu Restaurant, of course, but also a Rooftop Garden with a circular pool deck—it’s the spot to soak up 360-degree views and a DJ-spun soundscape. If the city stimulus gets to be too much, escape to the quiet subterranean spa.

A seriously cool, colorful addition to CDMX, Andaz Mexico City Condesa opened early 2023. The brand’s first urban property in the country boasts an expansive 17th-floor rooftop with a pool and restaurant, while suites feature in-room record players (pick out vacay plays from the record library in the lobby). La Condesa, the artistic neighborhood of galleries, cafes and boutiques it’s in, is equally inspiring, with Parque Mexico also just steps away.
