How do we rate a property?
We rate all our hotels, resorts, and lodges using our own bespoke grading system. We'll only invite a property into our collection once it's been assessed by one of our specialists. If it doesn't impress us, it doesn't make the cut.
From the quality of the food served in the restaurant to the amenities offered in each bedroom, we carefully rate each property to make sure it meets our high expectations.

About This Hotel
Take a deep breath, relax and unwind. At Amanemu, the serene hills above Ago Bay provide the backdrop to a restful retreat for body and mind.
Japan's Shima-shi is an city of stunning natural beauty, framed by the Pacific Ocean and rolling countryside. Close at hand, the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, while Ise Jingu (dating back to the 3rd Century) is one of the country's most sacred sites. In such peaceful surrounds, Amanemu provides suitable lodgings thanks to its focus on traditional, village-style accommodations.
The hotel is small in stature, boasting just 28 calming suites and four two-bedroom Villas. Each is nestled within the landscape, offering scenic views out to the bay or gardens, while a private onsen and generously proportioned terraces offer space for contemplation and relaxation.
Specifically built with relaxation in mind, the wellness component at Amanemu commands a large part of the footprint. Two large onsen bathing pavilions are complemented by a watsu pool, four private treatment suites, a yoga studio and a gym.
