Ten luxury tents sit in the middle of the Kalahari Desert, a striking starting point from which to take an all-inclusive uncharted African safari in the vast Makgadikgadi Pans.
A luxury tented camp in traditional East African 1940s style. At Jack's Camp, guests sleep in stylish green tents lavishly furnished with African fabrics, hardwood floors, Persian rugs, and unique artifacts. (Think "Green Hills of Africa".) In the main tent, a gorgeous canvas pavilion, meals are served at a communal table, a wonderful spot at the end of the day to compare notes about the day's adventures.
And the adventures are great. Head out into the Makgadikgadi on 4-wheel-drive quad bikes and view remote archaeological sites. Your guide may be a graduate student, or expert in ancient rock art, along with Zu/'hoasi Bushmen. Or come in the wet season, when herds of zebra and wildebeest come to feast on the fresh grasses.
A visit to Jack's Camp isn't complete without stopping by the Mess Tent with Natural History Museum, library, antique pool table and well stocked drinks chest.
At the end of the day, return to the comfort of your camp, where you can sip a cup of tea in your lavish suite, gaze out at the remote wilderness, and listen to absolute... silence.
