by Joy PecknoldWhile there’s no place like Europe—Tuscany’s vineyard-lined hills, the French Riviera’s turquoise waters, rural England’s quaint cottages—they don’t hold the copyright on those charms. With the conquest of the Aztec Empire came Spanish influence to what is now Mexico. That influence is particularly strong in San Miguel de Allende. Hemmed in by mountains, the town is known for its baroque Spanish architecture and rich arts scene—like a mini Barcelona. The Rosewood San Miguel de Allende carries that through in its design.

One might not expect to find a slice of Italy—other than pizza—in Palm Beach, Florida, but The Breakers goes beyond. The building was modeled after the Villa Medici in Rome, albeit flanked with palm trees instead of stone pines and, unlike the Italian capital, a plunge in the refreshing Atlantic is right out front.

Quebec City came to be as the first settlement of New France in 1608. While it’s a Canadian province now, it’s very much French. Here, in an area now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and within a Renaissance-style structure dating back to 1893, rises the grand Fairmont Le Château Frontenac. For even more Old World, partake in one of their historical tours.

In the lobby, special homage is paid to Coco Chanel with a sunburst chandelier evoking one of the designer’s brooches and the marble flooring reminiscent of the design house’s logo of interlocking Cs. There’s also French food and flair served up at both The Brasserie and The Patisserie onsite.

In Chatham, one of Cape Cod’s oldest villages, Chatham Bars Inn has a similar seaside charm to the resorts in Cornwall. Wake and take in all the boats bobbing just offshore whilst sipping on a cup of English Breakfast tea.
