Lobby Legends: Famous Animals of Luxury Hotels

Cori Copley, affectionately known as the “Queen of Copley,” has been Fairmont Copley Plaza’s Canine Ambassador for more than five years. Her career in hospitality began with an unexpected pivot: after training as a guide dog, Cori was deemed better suited to making guests feel at home. Today, she greets travelers, poses for photos, strolls around Copley Square and presides over her lobby domain, with longtime concierge Joe Fallon, who also cared for beloved hotel dogs Catie and Carly Copley. She can even serve as a ceremonial wedding witness through the hotel’s Pawesome Union package. In 2024, Cori’s dedication to her “9 to 5” earned her the title of “Hardest Working Dog” at Dolly Parton’s Pet Gala, where she was celebrated as “quite the charmer.”

At The Lanesborough, Lilibet has made it quite clear that the hotel is hers. The Siberian Forest cat, named after the late Queen Elizabeth II, arrived as a kitten in 2019 and has since become one of the property’s most fawned-over residents, roaming the halls, helping the doorman greet guests and occasionally taking a perch overlooking the portrait of her namesake. When she’s not making the rounds, you’ll often find her snoozing by the window of The Withdrawing Room, where her Cat Committee of cat-loving colleagues makes sure she’s well looked after. Lilibet has met Hollywood stars and members of the Royal Family, and she’s so popular that she often wears a tracking device so the team can keep tabs on their wandering queen. Clearly, she has a very busy social calendar.

At The Betsy, the most important meeting of the week happens Friday at 5 p.m., and attendance is strictly encouraged. That’s when Betsy, the hotel’s four-year-old red Golden Retriever and Canine Executive Officer, and her one-year-old assistant, Rosa, take over the hotel for CEO Cocktail Hour. Set on Ocean Drive in Miami, the beachside haven is as much a gathering place for arts and culture as it is a South Beach escape, with a curated program of poetry readings, nightly live jazz and more. The pair spend their days making the rounds, greeting guests and posing for photos, continuing a tradition started by Katie, The Betsy’s original CEO, who spent more than a decade exploring every corner of the hotel before crossing the rainbow bridge in 2019. Rosa joined soon after, becoming Betsy’s sidekick and chief cheerer-upper. Consider Friday’s cocktail hour your chance to meet the executive team.

Claude is the sort of hotel resident who expects the finer things in life, and Raffles London at The OWO is happy to oblige. The impeccably pampered British Shorthair Blue was brought to the hotel by his human, Nick Glenister, Director of Finance, and has since made the property his favorite of his four homes. Claude spends his days greeting guests with Head Concierge José Almeida, posing for selfies and generally reminding everyone who’s in charge. He arrived in Nick’s life as “Chonk,” a name he has left behind, and now enjoys diced grilled chicken prepared by Michelin-starred Mauro Colagreco, Cat Milk, cashmere blankets, silk cushions and his own personalized bathrobe. He even favors the Guerlain Spa, although his fitness routine was short-lived after he discovered cream cake. Some call it indulgence. Claude calls it balance.

Socrate has the sort of resume one might expect from a Parisian palace cat: immaculate lineage, excellent taste and a talent for making himself comfortable just about anywhere. The Sacred Birman arrived at Le Bristol Paris in 2021, succeeding his father Fa-Raon after his 11-year reign, and has been charming the hotel’s guests and staff ever since. With his lagoon-blue eyes and white-gloved paws, Socrate can be found draped across Louis XVI armchairs, wandering the corridors or chasing butterflies through the garden. He’s even earned a spot in Assouline’s Chic Cats. A little shy but endlessly curious, he brings a playful, feline spirit to one of Paris’s grandest hotels.

Jamaica Inn has had a black Labrador in residence since the 1970s, and Shadow V is happily carrying on the tradition. The latest in a beloved line of furry ambassadors, Shadow joined the team in 2023 and already has the job down: beach patrol, early-morning swims, belly rubs and the occasional paddleboarding adventure. She even has her own seaside cottage, just steps from the sea she loves to explore. Her predecessors were equally woven into life at the Inn, charming generations of guests with ocean swims and a knack for keeping an eye on breakfast trays. Today, Shadow V continues a very important tradition: making friends, soaking up the sunshine and reminding everyone that paradise is better with a dog.

Kitty Jacob Astor IV has been the four-legged face of The St. Regis Aspen Resort since arriving as a puppy in 2018, becoming the property’s first-ever resident dog. Now eight years old, the Bernese Mountain Dog is a familiar sight around the hotel, from helping with airport pickups and joining children for story time to cuddling guests in the lobby and stopping by for a goodnight nuzzle. Guests recently helped celebrate his eighth birthday with a special party that raised proceeds for Lucky Day Rescue, Aspen Fire and Aspen Wildfire Foundation. His grand name pays tribute to St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV and his own dog, Kitty, while his Instagram chronicles the latest chapter in the family legacy. And if Kitty happens to crash your wedding? Consider it a sign of great respect in Bernese Mountain Dog culture.

Three pups are living their best la dolce vita at Treville Positano. Lucy Lou, an eight-year-old Labrador Retriever, Daisy Mae, a three-year-old Australian Shepherd and puppy Onyx, an American Shepherd, are beloved members of the Treville family, calling this spectacular cliffside estate overlooking the Amalfi Coast home. Surrounded by lush gardens, hidden terraces and sweeping sea views, the property comes with its own private beach, floating pool and al fresco dining at Maestro’s.When the pups want to venture beyond the estate, they can even hop aboard for boat rides along the Tyrrhenian Sea. Not a bad life for three very lucky dogs.

Lisbon has no shortage of impressive residents, but Kyra and Spike might have the best view. The magnificent eagles are a permanent fixture at The One Palácio da Anunciada, where they spread their wings through the hotel’s gardens and help keep its little ecosystem in balance. Their presence is part of the property’s wider commitment to environmental stewardship through Stay Green by H10 Hotels, which supports the natural heritage surrounding its hotels. At Carmel Valley Ranch, the resident animal roster is almost as impressive as the guest list. There’s Pebbles and her daughter Flowermoon, a mother-daughter duo of miniature horses; Valais Blacknose sheep Levi and Wrangler, whose fluffy faces have earned them plenty of attention; plus alpacas, goats, donkeys, chickens, cattle and more. Guests can meet the animals at the Hilltop Corral, join guided walks or get up close with Belle and Bucky, the ranch’s pair of mini-Highland cattle, during the Scotch & Steers experience, where brushing and grooming come with a scotch in hand. There’s always a new face to discover, too, with the ranch regularly spotlighting one of its residents as its “Animal of the Month” on Instagram.

Fairmont Tokyo has a Chief Happiness Officer, and unsurprisingly, she has four paws. Serene, the hotel’s Labrador Retriever and Canine Ambassador, brings a gentle warmth to the hotel, greeting guests, lifting the team’s spirits and occasionally enjoying a sunbath in the lobby. Her role extends beyond the hotel, too: Serene supports NPO Tier Heim KOKUA, an animal welfare organization dedicated to caring for rescued and abandoned animals. She’s also the inspiration behind Fairmont Tokyo’s PAW-tastic Canine Stay Plan, where visiting pups are welcomed with personalized beds embroidered with their names, turndown service, snacks, gourmet meals and their very own Serene Jr. toy. In a city that never seems to slow down, she’s a charming reminder to pause, relax and enjoy the moment.

Fairmont Hotels & Resort’s Canine Ambassadors have a special way of making a hotel feel a little more like home. At Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown, Georgie the yellow Lab greets guests in the lobby and presides over the annual Howl-o-ween celebration. And at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Golden Retriever Calla spent four years greeting arrivals and strolling beside the lake before passing peacefully in May 2026. Though they may no longer be padding through the lobby, Ella and Calla left behind something lasting: the memory of a welcome made warmer by four paws.
