Cool Runnings
by Olivia BettsSome runs are destinations in their own right. They wind through historic streets as the city wakes, trace dramatic coastlines, climb into wild mountain air and turn familiar places into entirely new routes. From New York’s legendary landmarks to the soaring peaks of the Dolomites, these are the runs worth traveling for, paired with hotels that make the post-run payoff just as good. Lace up, go somewhere beautiful and discover some of the world’s most spectacular running vacations, one stride at a time.

Home to the world’s largest marathon, New York City is legendary running territory, with routes stretching from Staten Island to Central Park and iconic sights around every corner. At Equinox Hotel, Hudson Yards, runners have a prime base for pounding the pavement, plus all the tools needed to recover well: lymphatic drainage massages, infrared saunas, cryotherapy, sleep-optimized rooms and a performance-focused pool. Then there’s the Vessel Run, Equinox’s own test of stamina, sending runners up 2,500 steps across 154 zigzagging flights inside Hudson Yards’ 16-story, honeycomb-shaped landmark. It’s a distinctly New York way to get your heart racing.

At Cyprianerhof in the heart of South Tyrol, trails begin right outside the door, with experienced running guides on hand to help with everything from technique and pacing to the best local routes.
