Overview

Just across 5th Avenue from the dusty, iconic depths of the New York City Public Library, are the loft-like interiors of Andaz 5th Avenue. A tribute to luxury when it still had a matte finish.

Cozy up with a glass of wine and a good novel in the library lounge.
New York has seen its share of flash-in-the-pan ideas. By the same token, it has witnessed the birth of some of the world's most beloved structures and cultural movements. Andaz 5th Avenue, although relatively new, has taken square aim at the latter category.

12' floor-to-ceiling windows open up to the imposing lions seated affront the New York Public library. Inside, 184 rooms (including 42 suites) feature low-slung furnishings, porcelain-foot baths, and Geneva sound systems - all contributing to an intellectually stylish feel.

Dining is handled with an eye for both the fresh and local at the ground floor restaurant. Communal tables are the norm here, so prepare to rub elbows with locals and globetrotters alike.

For business, book out Apartment 2E, a 6400 sq. ft. multi-function space with state-of-the-art AV capabilities, a courtyard and communal kitchen, and the keen ability to make the event's host look twice as hip as they are. Not that they'd need any help.

Andaz Suite Experience

Second stay at the Andaz and it continues to present a hip New York vibe.

Stayed in a Loft Suite with extra pull out sofa for a third person. Disappointed we didn't get much of a view as it was on the 13th floor, but rooms were presented well and for NYC is of a generous size.

Comparing this stay with our first, room service was poor taking over an hour to deliver some drinks. Also the free drinks etc were not stocked up on a daily basis and after complaining took the next day to restock.

Complimentary "Happy Hour" wine continues to impress and the bar downstairs is a big plus when returning from a day / night shopping.

Locality excellent right on 5th Ave and opposite the Public Library and Bryants Park and only two blocks from Times Square.

Would we stay again? Of course, but there's some hot competition in that price bracket so they must focus on getting the small things right to offer the full package.

breath of fresh air in midtown manhattan

Great hotel in a bit of a quirky building. Bathrooms are fantastic. Staff was exemplary. Design and atmosphere is spot on. Awesome location right next to the NY public library and only 3 blocks from Grand Central Station.

If you like the Hyatt brand but want something more stylized with a personal boutique feel than the homogeneity of the Grand Hyatt down the street give this hotel a try.

One weird thing about the hotel is that if you have a breakfast-included package they make you take it via room service in your room, you can't eat in the restaurant.

That said give the restaurant on the main floor a pass - quality is mediocre which is a real surprise given the high standard in NYC for hotel dining. But definitely spend some quality time in the bar/lounge in the basement. Great drinks and atmosphere down there any night of the week.

This hotel is a breath of fresh air in the midtown hotel scene. Not clubby and old school like many of the hotels up there, but warm and welcoming while still being modern and hip - not at all the glamfest that you find at places like either of the W hotels a few blocks away. Definitely worth a try.

Nice and Classy

We stayed in the Andaz 5th Avenue for a night during July.
Rooms were big and very well designed, the bathroom was outstanding. The service was good and restaurant had a nice Brunch on Saturday Morning.
They don't have the Continental Breakfast on the weekends. (only in room service). They should advice about this topic when you have a Continental Breakfast Voucher and you have to use it on a weekend day.
They arranged that very kindly when check-out was done.
Great place to be in front of The NY Library.
I will be back!

Great Job

Very nice, great atmosphere and fantastic service with a killer location for the right price.

Classy, Trendy Hotel in NYC

Lucky to have stayed in many great hotels, but this would be the first time where a positive experience has compelled me to write a review.

Stay here if these things are attractive to you:

Excellent Location - across from the NYC Public Library and Bryant Park, walking distance to Times Square (yet far enough away!), steps to the subway, and right on vibrant Fifth Ave.

Understated, Design-Forward Rooms - After relatively exhausting sight seeing in NYC, it was nice to come home in the evening to a luxurious, but not over the top, hotel room. Great, extra-large bathrooms that can fit several medium sized vehicles. Clean, modern room design that will resonate with those that value trendy, but don't need their hotel room to make a fashion statement.

Details and Service - This will be the thing about the Andaz that I remember most. Strong focus on guest satisfaction. Requested an early-check in, and was accomodated. But the best part was receiving a very nice phone call from Connie Wang, the Director of Rooms, to welcome us and make sure we checked-in OK. Very nice personal touch.

Mention a special occasion, and don't be surprised to see a bottle of wine and treats in your room. Or, ask where you can purchase coffee-to-go in the lobby, and be pleasantly surprised when they graciously provide some to you from the hotel restaurant...and then refuse payment! They also don't nickel and dime you on things like wi-fi and non-alcoholic drinks in the room.

Very smart way to run a hotel that will keep me coming back and recommending to friends.

EXCELENT BOUTIQUE HOTEL

WE GOT A KING SUITE. ROOM WAS VERY SPACIOUS FOR NEW YORK. BATHROOM AS WELL. SERVICE WAS EXCELENT. ROOMS WERE VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT. EVERYTHING IS BRAND NEW. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS HOTEL AND WILL DEFINATELY STAY AGAIN. WE TRAVEL TO NYC OFTEN AND THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS FOR LOCATION, ROOMS, AND SERVICE.
