Elizabeth Davey

Head women’s designer for clothing label Kit and Ace, Elizabeth Davey frequents art fairs with her artist husband, Andrew Dadson. With the 2015 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach less than two months away (December 3-6, precisely), we called on Davey to share her intel on making the most of it.

LAY OF THE LAND

“You go to Miami Art Basel for the parties, beach, and collecting of all creative types in one area, along with the art, of course. I spend the first part of the day checking out Galleria Franco Noero and David Kordansky Gallery. Each day most of the galleries shift things around the booth and it’s super inspiring to see the new work. Bring good shoes that you can walk in—the fairs are big and there’s lots going on in the city. Also, it’s hard to get an Uber at closing time, so go for a drink at a neighboring hotel and wait it out.”

COLLINS AVENUE

“I stay on Collins Avenue. All the hotels line the beach and there is an amazing promenade to run in the mornings.” Hotels on Collins near the Miami Beach Convention Center where the main event is held include 1 Hotel South BeachW South BeachThe Redbury South Beach and SLS South Beach.

THE RALEIGH

“Cocktails are great at The Raleigh—sit beside the pool, or at the side bar after the fair when you want something more intimate. They just happened to have a jewelry pop-up shop last year—no better combo than drinking and shopping. The location is great and the architecture is beautiful.”

PUERTO SAGUA

“We spend much of our time wrapped up in gallery events but we had the pleasure of eating at this super low-key Cuban diner, Puerto Sagua, as one of our large multi-gallery dinners. It was simple, relaxed and welcoming, family-style, which can be really refreshing amongst the more formal dinners and openings.”

RUBELL FAMILY COLLECTION

“The Rubell Family Collection is a must see while in Miami. They are game-changers in the art scene and often host a large opening night party. They also have a great book collection that is worth spending some time looking through.”

THE WEBSTER

“I spend little time doing anything other than seeing all the galleries. There is so much to see and shop in the fair. However, The Webster is a fantastic store for a unique and luxury selection of clothing and accessories.”
