Overview

Tea, yoga, and the serenity you can only find in the small Japanese spa town of Yamashiro are the three underpinnings of Beniya Mukayu. This stunning hotel is the proud recipient of the Relais & Chateaux Welcome Trophy in 2013.

Beniya Mukayu has been practicing the thousand-year-old science of wellness through water for four generations. Maple and Pine trees hide this open-plan Ryokan with just 17 rooms, all intimate and harmonious.

Here, guests experience Onsen, alkaline hot spring waters that are both soothing and curative. Along with these steaming natural baths, guests can peruse a long menu of other spa therapies, herbal treatments, yoga, meditation, and healthy and delicious cuisine from both land and sea.

Guests who stay more than two nights are invited to sample the Mukayu Experience (for an extra fee). English-speaking staff will guide guests through a range of unique activities including cooking classes, a trip to Yamishiro Onsen, Soba making classes and a Soba lunch, Japanese paper making, a Kimono wearing experience, and many, more more fun activities.

One should also note that Beniya Mukayu is an architectural masterwork. Not run by any holding company, but by a family. Looking for authenticity? This is it.
